While the last few years created many challenges for everyone, the live entertainment industry saw a huge impact on their businesses and forced many to shift the way they connected to their customers.
The challenge
With live performance stopped in it's tracks, it became obvious a new channel for delivering performances was needed. The challenge soon became: how can we deliver performances to customers at home, and how does that fit with the existing online experience?
Upon intial discussions and strategy sessions, we decided to create a new online streaming platform for viewing performances was the way to go - including the capability to sign up to individual shows but also entire seasons on a subscription model.
The solution
Due to the fact we have zero time to adjust to the challenges imposed by the Covid pandemic, we needed to hit the ground running and decided upon and Lean approach and moving the design process into the browser right away, creating interactive prototypes to design and assess the experience.
Much of the brand and visual design style could be lifted from the main website, so this helped in crafting the experience in a timely manner - needed under the circumstances.
Limitations and costs involved with building into the existing systems meant we decided to create the 'At Home' experience within it's own dedicated microsite, where we could take advantage of the chance to improve cross-device compatibility and accessibility standards — as well as improving techincal performance.
The outcome
We delivered and excellent, cross-device experience on time and budget to allow Pinchgut Opera to continue to provide live entertainment to it's audience, without hassel or complication, during a very trying time for all.
The 'At Home' microsite continues to perform, as it scales it's content and strategy to maintain customer's access to streaming content from past and upcoming performances.
The team was incredible and delivered Pinchgut Opera's bespoke micro-site exactly as we had hoped. We couldn't be happier with our experience.
